ONDURA/SHINGLE COMPARISON

We know that selecting a new roofing system is not easy. There are many options available and, like most other building products, each roofing system has its own pros and cons. In order to help you as you begin your evaluation, we offer here some thoughts and comparisons that you might find helpful.

Shingles are certainly one of the most conventional types roofing available. However, they do have a few disadvantages to bear in mind. All shingles require solid decking (or removal of other types of roofing) for installation. They provide only a one-dimensional look, and re-shingling is the only option for changing the appearance or color. Also, shingles have a relatively short lifespan, especially in warm climates.

The benefits of Ondura vary based on whether it is used in new roofing or re-roofing applications (see below):

New Roofing:

  • Ondura is often less expensive than high-grade shingles

  • Ondura has a Lifetime Limited Warranty; most shingles offer only 20-30 year warranties

  • Has a distinctive look, is available in 8 colors . . . and can easily be painted to change appearance

  • Can be installed over open purlins (non-residential structures without interior ceilings, such as barns or sheds) or solid decking

  • Ondura can easily be installed by a maintenance staff or crew

Re-Roofing:

  • Unlike shingles, Ondura can be applied over existing roofs including shingles (up to 2 layers), metal, and wood . . . without a tear-off

  • Eliminates time and expense associated with tearing off and disposing of an existing roof

  • Is lighter weight and does not overburden the roof structure like shingles

  • Ondura can easily be installed by a maintenance staff or crew

  • Ondura can easily be repainted to change the look of the roof

  • Ondura is covered by one of the best warranties in the business
